Ciro MacCord

Born in 1987 in Brazil, lives and works in Diamantina (Brazil)

Ciro MacCord’s oil paintings explore the topology of desire and violence, interplayed by the fabric of memory and its decay. Informed by explorations on psychedelics, psychoanalysis, and a passion for ’80s body horror classics, his canvases often evoke the emotional charge that emerges from the subconscious by portraying visceral aspects of chimeric subjects amidst unearthly landscapes. Through loose, gestural brushstrokes, he strives to evoke a sense of reality on the brink—where the alluring and the repulsive intertwine. Though new to oils (he began his practice in 2023), MacCord has been immersed in visual language for years, experimenting with graphic design, photography, and video—all of which echo through his haunting compositions and colors.
